Transgender people continue to have legal protection against discrimination and harassment. We want to make it clear that hate speech, discrimination, and harassment have no place in our community. We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses such behaviour to report it through the University’s Harassment and Misconduct team — reports can be made anonymously. For safety updates and support, the SafeZone App is also a helpful tool to have on hand.
We understand the emotional toll moments like this can have on our community and want to reaffirm our commitment to making LUU a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and free to be their true selves. At LUU, we remain dedicated to building an environment where every student can thrive. We encourage all our members to continue showing up for one another with compassion.
Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we come together in support. LUU continues to offer the Gender Expression Fund, which is available to help cover the costs associated with gender expression. Our Help & Support services are here for anyone who needs a safe space to talk or practical support navigating challenges.
Students can also connect with others through the Trans Liberation Student Network and the LGBT+ Society, both of which provide spaces for community, advocacy, and joy. If you’re interested in campaigning or want to get involved in pushing for positive change, we encourage you to reach out to our Political and Engagement Team at unislc@leeds.ac.uk.
In solidarity,
The Student Executive Team 2024/2025
