What are societies, and how can I get involved?
Here at Leeds University Union (LUU), we have more than 300 societies for you to explore and join. These student-led groups are the perfect way to meet other Leeds students, pick up or develop interests and skills, and find your people at Uni.
There are many ways to find the perfect Clubs and Societies for you. Visiting our Fresh Start Clubs, Societies, and Brands Fair is the easiest way. This fair is from Monday 27 January – Wednesday 29 January, and stalls will be found throughout LUU, including the Riley-Smith Theatre, the foyer, and Crossroads. It is a fantastic opportunity to chat with societies, sign up for Give it a Go events and become a member. Make sure to pick up some freebies while you’re there!
In Room 2, on the union’s second floor, we will have a quiet room for students to escape from all the excitement. There will be tea, coffee, cakes, and colouring. So, pop in if you need a break.
If you can’t make it to our Fresh Start Clubs and Societies fair, don’t worry! You can still scroll through our Clubs & Societies online listings and read about them. Remember you can filter the webpage to your tastes using the ‘categories’ drop-down menu.
Sometimes, it can be challenging to know where to start. If you are looking for inspiration, take our quick ‘Find your Fit‘ quiz to be matched with a Club or Society based on your interests, time and budget.
What is a Give it a Go?
Give it a Go (GIAG) is our programme of free (or low-cost), low-commitment activities that are run by our fantastic clubs and societies year-round. You can attend these activities before purchasing a Club or Society membership to see if they are for you. These events can be anything from speed-friending events, movie nights, and training sessions in the Edge to gaming tournaments. There is something for everyone!
Our GIAGs are open to everyone, whether you are new to Leeds or want to get involved in something new. They are an excellent opportunity to find your community and get to know new people.
Check out our Events page on Engage to see what GIAG events are on offer.
