Better Union
Should Leeds University Union (LUU) actively campaign for a fairer and more transparent student housing process for all students?
The Idea was presented by International & Postgraduate Officer Rimsha Khan, and LISN (Liberation and International Student Network) member Vishanth Suresh.
The Idea passed and has become LUU Policy for three years. This’ll be particularly important during advocacy with relevant stakeholders on the need to make housing more accessible for students.
“I strongly believe in the importance of advocating for a fairer and more transparent student housing process. It’s crucial to ensure that every student has access to safe and affordable housing options. This policy would be transformative, tackling issues like the requirement for guarantors and hefty deposits, and fostering a university environment that is more inclusive and equitable for all.” – Rimsha Khan
Better University
Should LUU work with the University to make campus more student-parent friendly?
This Idea was presented by Hope Bachmann and Equality and Liberation Officer Haryati Mohammed.
The Idea passed and has become LUU Policy for three years. This’ll provide legitimacy and a lasting legacy to implementing some of the solutions to the issues faced by student-parents here.
“Student parents are an invisible population who juggle work and child caring responsibilities simultaneously. Not only do these additional priorities create extra stresses, but also a massive financial strain. Women are typically disproportionately affected by this, which means the issue crosses intersectional lines. Knowing that LUU are now committed to working towards better supporting these students is of immense relief to me. If nothing else, it makes me feel seen when so often student parents feel invisible.” – Hope Bachmann
Should PGRs receive fair pay and conditions for the work they do at the University of Leeds?
The Idea passed and has become LUU Policy for three years.
This will tie into Academic Engagement team’s work around PGR Pay and Conditions.
Should LUU work with the University to foster a culture that is welcoming and supportive of students from Gypsy, Roma, Traveler, Showmen and Boater communities?
This Idea was presented by Equality and Liberation Officer Haryati Mohammed. This is the start of work at the University – Haryati wanted to ensure the work would continue to have students (Equality and Liberation Officer among others) advocating for the list of actions in the agenda.
The Idea passed and has become LUU Policy for three years.
