Fruity is the one place you’ll want to be on a Friday night. Haven’t heard of it? About to celebrate its 21st birthday, it is Leeds’ longest-running student club night. Three different rooms will offer you three different experiences for your preferred musical taste – pop & chart, indie, or hip-hop & R&B. There are plenty of special themed nights throughout the year too, like Fruity Does the 80s, St Patrick’s Day, and Fruity at the Beach. Your wellbeing and safety is our priority – while cheap drinks will get the good vibes going, our wellbeing officers will keep an eye on any issues, and our night bus service or our partner taxi company will take you home safely.
For all the music lovers, LUU is proud to host a variety of artists from around the world to offer you unforgettable nights of live music – just this coming term, you can expect to see the legendary punk-pop tunesmiths The Undertones & Neville Staple, the politically charged rock collective Brass Against, and American multi-instrumentalist BC Camplight. There are also weekly jamming sessions in Old Bar, featuring local artists and musical societies – you could be performing for our Sunday crowd too!
Our hundreds of clubs and societies will help you find your community of like-minded students, learn new skills and develop your talents, build friendships and make memories. And there’s definitely something for everyone – from basketball to ballet, from chemistry to chess, from fencing to film, from law to Lego. Societies also host a variety of fun events and socials, including year-long (free!) Give It A Go sessions where you can try out new things without committing to a membership.
If clubbing and socialising isn’t quite your thing, that’s okay! We run plenty of quiet mindful events, such as arts & crafts workshops. Just pop into the LUU building to spend a relaxing afternoon colouring a tote bag or making your own tea blend. And keep an eye out for the Spring Welfair – a whole week of de-stressing activities and useful resources to check in with your mind and body.
Here’s our top 3 student experiences to put in your calendar:
