Change in action: all the outcomes of this week’s Better Forum

Better Forums are a central part of democracy at LUU. They’re one of the main ways our student members can transform their ideas into LUU policy – and tangible change – in the Union, University and the City of Leeds. This week we held an online Forum covering each of these categories. 

The Forum saw a strong turnout of student leaders, with 58 students from across the Activities Exec, Academic Reps, Community Reps and Liberation Coordinators in attendance, alongside all five officers and a student panel of 14.

To pass, an idea needed 11 votes to reach a consensus. Here are those that passed to become Union policy for three years:

Better Union

Should LUU work with anti-food waste organisations like Olio or Too Good to Go to ensure food wastage within LUU is reduced?

Better Leeds

Should LUU and the University commit to regularly litter-picking densely populated student areas?

Better University

Should the University have at least one 24 hour library that operates outside of exam periods?

Should the University create a partnership with the Trussell Trust foodbanks through the Lifelong Learning Centre and LUU?

Should the University encourage academic schools to introduce content note guides for lecturers and module leaders?

Should the University abolish all hidden course costs so that tuition fees cover all aspects of students’ education?
