Of course, governments and corporations hold the biggest responsibility, but our behaviour can change things too. At LUU we’re working to ingrain sustainability into everything we do, all year round, with climate justice at the forefront of our efforts. We’ve done plenty towards this goal already, including:
- Pledging to become single-use plastic free by 2023
- Achieving an Excellent Green Impact SU Award for 4 years running
- Establishing the Sustainability Grant Fund
- Hosting an annual Climate Week
- Delivering environmental policies via Better Forums
From increasing our lobbying and keeping members informed, to optimising our building management and ensuring ethical supply chains, there’s loads going on inside the Union, all aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
But we’re committed to doing more.
We’ve developed a sustainability strategy that sets out how we will continue to work towards the minimisation of our environmental impact to protect our community – and others – for the future. It’s a wide-ranging strategy that considers both our own operations, and the way we support you, our members, to get involved and make positive changes yourself. The strategy is based around the following strands:
- Campaigns: Keeping accountable, challenging ourselves and others and lobbying for change.
- Operations: Setting an example, implementing best practice and improving every day.
- Communications: Informing, educating, consulting and collaborating.
You can read the strategy in full here, and discover more about our sustainability efforts, our new campaign LUU Acts For Earth, and how you can get involved here.
Let’s work together to protect our community for the future.
