Any student, club or society can borrow the equipment to organise a litter pick in the local area. All they need to do is contact Paul at unipcor@leeds.ac.uk to arrange picking up and returning the equipment.
Community Officer Lotti commented: “Students are often blamed for the mess and litter left in the park and we know that doesn’t represent how the majority of our student body feel towards Woodhouse Moor. It’s a wonderful green space, and is enjoyed by many local residents including students – especially as many student houses don’t have their own gardens or outdoor spaces.
“We’ve seen so many student-led litter picks and clean ups over the last few months, so it’s great that we’ve been able to implement this scheme to support our student groups to continue to contribute positively to the local area.”
One of the student groups who have already been working to tackle LS6’s litter problem is Leeds Surf. They said: “Leeds Surf Society have been conducting socially distanced street cleans this year, with 30+ students attending most cleans! We have enjoyed giving a little back to the local community, and hope to continue this for years to come.”
Environmental sustainability continues to be a priority objective for this year’s Exec with plenty of activity to work towards a greener LUU, as well as ways for students to get involved. You can discover everything that’s going on here.
