Are you our next University Challenge star?

Ever hummed along to the string quartet, gazed into Jeremy Paxman’s eyes and got a bit too excited as you tally up your (admittedly impressive) score? You could be one of our next University Challenge contestants. 

If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a University Challenge competitor, now’s your chance to make that dream a reality. The last time the University of Leeds reached the televised round was back in 2012, so we’re on the lookout for our next team of academic Olympians to take part in the prestigious BBC quiz show.

So how is it going to work?

We’ve prepared a quiz to help us whittle down our hopefuls before the next stage of the audition process. It’s formed of 25 questions, covering science, history, politics, astronomy and more, and will take about 30 minutes to complete.

The deadline for completion is midnight on Friday 13th November, and successful applicants will be invited to live auditions in the third week of November.

It’s important that you make sure you meet our eligibility requirements before taking the quiz.

1. You are currently registered on a programme of study at the University of Leeds and will not receive your final award before May 2021.

2. You have not previously appeared on the televised show for this or any other institution.

3. You will be generally free to attend an interview and test with the production company during January 2021 and for recording in Manchester during the following dates:

  • Friday 26th February – Monday 1st March;
  • Thursday 25th March – Saturday 27th March;
  • Saturday 24th April – Monday 26th April.

4. You have not used any supplementary resources to complete this application. If you cheat you will get caught out during our live auditions and the two further tests issued by the production company.
