Standards & Awards
We're Best Bar None
We’ve been awarded the ‘Best Bar None’ accreditation since 2006; an initiative pioneered by Greater Manchester Police as part of its ‘City Safe’ programme, and adopted as best practice by the Home Office. The scheme has been adopted by Student Unions nationally through NUSSL, and by many Police forces and Councils including Leeds. As well as receiving annual accreditation from NUSSL, we have won a string of awards including:
- NUSSL overall winner in 2006 for the Terrace
- Leeds Best Night Club 2007 for Stylus
- Leeds Best Pub 2008 for the Old Bar
- Leeds Best Door Team 2009
- NUSSL regional winner for the Terrace in 2011
- Leeds Overall winner 2011
- NUSSL regional winner for Stylus in 2012
- NUSSL Gold standard for Stylus, Terrace & Old Bar in 2014
- Best Bar None, Gold standard 2015 and 2016
Standards & Awards
LUU has achieved numerous standards, awards and accreditations for its work in different areas, including student safety and environmental sustainability.
The scheme aims to ensure the customer experience is a safe and responsible one whilst still being enjoyable, and that the outlet has a responsible attitude and sound crime prevention measures. Judged independently, the scheme is a measure of performance against four licensing objectives:
- Prevention of Crime and Disorder
- Public Safety
- Prevention of Public Nuisance
- Protection of Children from Harm
The Union has continued to apply for and be awarded the standard, achieving an overall score of 95% in the 2012 NUSSL assessment.
