Club and Society Election Season
Shape the future of your club or society
Clubs and societies form one of the most important parts of University life, bringing together like-minded students to have fun, develop skills and find their place in our University community. They make a big difference to students’ social lives and wellbeing, so it’s crucial that they’re run by the right people. The only way to make that happen is to cast your vote – or take it in your own hands!
How does it work?
Each club or society is led by a committee of students – holding positions from President and Secretary through to Head of Publicity and beyond – who work together to run the group and deliver all its events, socials and activities across the year.
All of our club & society committees are elected by their group members during the Club and Society Election Season, and any member of the group is eligible to stand for the election. These elections are held online on Engage, making it super convenient for students to stand or vote.
Why should you stand?
Joining a committee is a great way to build your professional, social and leadership skills, whilst also improving your wellbeing and sense of purpose.
You’ll be surprised at the breadth of CV-worthy skills you develop as a committee member. From chairing meetings to planning and delivering events, or even managing the society’s accounts, there are so many experiences you’ll gain that will set you apart in future job applications. You could even win an award for your work with the club or society at The Riley’s!
If you do decide to run to join a committee, our Activities Team will provide training and support you throughout the year.
To nominate yourself, just write a short candidate statement, outlining why you’re the best person for the role!
