What exactly is LeadLUU?
LeadLUU is the name of our annual Student Executive leadership race, which is the second – and biggest – opportunity in our series of annual elections here at the Union. It’s one of the largest student elections in the country, and is a pretty big deal in the Leeds campus calendar.
In short, students are invited to run to join the Student Exec, either as a sabbatical year during their studies, as a placement year, or after they have graduated. Any student, no matter their level or programme of study, is eligible to run.
The Officers work together to lead the Union for a year, deciding its direction, acting as trustees, and representing the voice of over 36,000 students in high-level decision making at the Union and University. Hence the election’s name – LeadLUU winners will literally lead LUU for a year.
Which positions are up for grabs?
The Exec Officer positions are full time and salaried. There are six roles covering the key parts of the student experience, which are:
- Activities and Opportunities
- Education (focused on undergraduate students)
- Equality and Liberation
- International and Postgraduate
- Union Affairs and Communications
- Wellbeing
You can discover the specifics of each role to help decide which one is for you on via the link on this page.
What does running involve?
After nominations close, you’ll be asked to run a campaign to convince students to choose you before the voting period kicks off (Monday 28 February to Thursday 3 March). There’ll be plenty of support, and more information to follow about the process of running in LeadLUU – but we wanted to give you the heads up now.
Nominations are open until Friday 4 February, so there’s plenty of time to decide which role is right for you. Just register your interest for more information and to take the first step towards nominating yourself.
