General rules when visiting LUU
In light of the enhanced lockdown rules applied to Leeds over the weekend, students are now strongly advised by the Government to not meet up with friends and family from outside their household in public venues, including those in and around the Union building. But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to make the most of our services with your housemates or support bubble.
Terrace & Old Bar
Under the new rules, Terrace and Old Bar will now be closing at 10pm each day.
They’ll be limited to table service only, and we have new order and pay apps to make this as simple as possible.
You’ll now need to wear your face mask when walking through the bars, but will be allowed to take them off once seated to eat or drink. Masks are also compulsory for our staff under the new rules. You’ll also need to sign into Test and Trace.
One thing that’s not changing is our great value – you can still get your hands on brilliant student deals like 2-4-1 cocktails on Thursday nights, sub-£3 pints and upgrades to premium spirits for as little as 30p.
Scream & Common Ground
The new rules don’t affect our cafes’ opening hours, however you’ll also need to wear your mask inside these outlets until you are seated to eat or drink.
You’ll be able to order and pay at the till as normal in these outlets, or via the new app at Common Ground for the ultimate contactless experience. And if you’re sitting in, you’ll need to sign into Test and Trace.
LUU's shops
A number of our shops are back open, including our on-campus supermarket, Co op. The new rules don’t affect their existing arrangements, but you can take a look at what’s open and when on our site.
Help & Support and Joblink
The Help & Support team are back in the building foyer to answer any questions you may have as you settle into a new semester at Leeds – even if you just need some directions! Just pop on your face mask, head into the building and find out what you need to know.
The Advice team are also on hand to help, but are working remotely for now. If you’re experiencing an issue and need some advice or support about anything at all, get in touch with them to arrange a phone call or video chat.
Joblink are back in the building to help you find work as we head into the new academic year. Pop in to see how they can help you.
Freshers' events
The restrictions mean that this year’s welcome experience is quite a bit different to normal, but we’ve still done all we can to provide exciting events and experiences whilst keeping you safe.
Choose from film screenings in our outdoor cinema, an ongoing outdoor food festival (poutine anyone?) and virtual events including yoga and cooking classes, Bongo’s Bingo and even a virtual version of legendary Leeds student night Fruity to celebrate its 19th birthday. Visit our website for the full event listings.
Anything else?
In addition to a ban on meeting with friends in private homes and gardens, you should make sure to stick to the Government’s rule of six at all times when out and about – that means you cannot socialise inside or outside in groups of more than six people. It’s strongly advised that you only socialise outside of the home with those that you live with.
You’ll be required to wear a face covering (unless exempt) in the LUU building and follow our clearly signposted rules. If you’re exempt from wearing a mask, you’ll be able to pick up a badge from Help & Support in the foyer to help communicate this.
Want to know more? Read about how we’re keeping you safe in and around our building on campus.
Rest assured that we’re keeping an eye on the Government’s advice and will revise our actions and guidance as needed – if it’s not safe for us to open, we won’t.
