Beware of Fake Freshers’ Wristbands this September

Each year nightclubs and promotion companies around Leeds and beyond attempt to sell wristbands for freshers’ student nights, falsely claiming that they are official welcome events. This year is no different.

We know you’ll be looking forward to a programme of fun events as part of your welcome experience, so it’s important to be aware of what’s legitimate and what’s not. LUU is the official provider of your University of Leeds freshers’ experience and we do not sell wristbands – so be aware that any wristbands are unofficial and could result in you being scammed.

Purchasing a fake wristband is particularly risky this year given that many of the events being advertised including club nights and foam parties are currently banned under Covid-19 health guidelines, meaning that they could be refunded at the last minute leaving you without plans, replaced by a poor digital substitute, or even cancelled and not refunded. As a result, we advise all students to avoid purchasing a wristband in advance.

Many of our events will be completely free of charge, and for those that do require booking, you’ll be able to do so soon on the official welcome website.
