Bethan Corner - Education Officer
What did/do you study? I studied in Theatre and Performance with Enterprise.
Your secret talent/hobby? My secret talent is skipping! I’m really good at skipping.
Favourite place on campus? I’ve recently started heading to Baines Wing Cafe when it’s sunny, and it’s such a hidden little gem!
Best thing about Leeds? For the uni, it has to be all the different societies – we have so many, there’s something for everyone! For the city, I love the Corn Exchange – so many little shops and really good cafes.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Take your time! Everyone settles in differently, and we are here to help you in every way possible. Whether you don’t know which society to join, need some academic help or want some good food, getting to know the Union is really important.
Ella Williams - Activities & Opportunities Officer
What did/do you study? Biological Sciences.
Your secret talent/hobby? Not a secret but… football!
Favourite place on campus? LUU, of course! As a student, I spent most of my time in Common Ground, Terrace or just in the foyer.
Best thing about Leeds? The student community is the best thing for sure! There are so many students at Leeds, but the student areas and campus have such a community feeling to them.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Don’t be scared to get involved and throw yourself into things! I’ve met some of my closest friends by going out of my comfort zone and trying new things.
Emily Tabern - Union Affairs & Communications Officer
What did/do you study? My undergrad was in English Literature and Creative Writing, and my (incomplete) masters is in International Communication.
Your secret talent/hobby? It’s not much of a secret since I prance about the office constantly but I love dancing. I’ve been part of Modern and Ballet society since I came to Leeds and it really has made my uni experience.
Favourite place on campus? St. George’s field is such a lovely safe haven tucked away from all the noise of campus. My favourite thing to do on a sunny day is to sit and read my book under a tree (if you can block out the fact that it’s actually a cemetery).
Best thing about Leeds? I love the sense of community – having so many of my friends within walking distance and all the little spots that everyone flocks to to hang out, whether it’s the park in the summer, Common Ground throughout the day, Brudenell in the evening.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Just throw yourself into everything you can! You never know who you might meet, what hobbies you might discover, and all of the memories there are to make unless you open yourself up to opportunities.
Hannah Catterall - Wellbeing Officer
What did/do you study? I just finished my undergraduate in BA Philosophy. I took a lot of discovery modules in Religion and History of Science also, I have so many interests!
Your secret talent/hobby? I can do what I call ‘frog legs’… literally imagine a frog. It’s my not-so-secret party trick.
Favourite place on campus? Honestly… LUU. No surprise, but I love it here. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Leeds Student TV office and Common Ground, in particular. Honorable mentions include St. George’s field and the Parkinson Building, they’re just stunning!
Best thing about Leeds? Leeds is so student-friendly! I feel like I’m always finding out about new places to go where there’s other students.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Join societies! Try anything and everything you’re interested in. A lot of societies have a ‘Give It A Go’ where you can see if the society is for you, which is a great way to try lots before you invest in a membership. It will help you find your people, just like it helped me find mine.
Haryati Mohammed - Equality & Liberation Officer
What did/do you study? Child and Family Studies with Lifelong Learning Centre.
Your secret talent/hobby? My talent is so secret that I haven’t been able to discover it.
Favourite place on campus? Common room in Ziff building which at the time of writing is no longer accessible to students. It was a good space for students and where we had events too.
Best thing about Leeds? Leeds is a child friendly city and has its own Young People Film Festival. Leeds also caters to those without children, the trick is choosing what it is you want to do.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Embrace and enjoy the diversity that being at Leeds offers. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a home or international student, everyone appreciates a smile, if talking to someone new is daunting. If you can, explore beyond the university, city centre and student housing areas. Leeds is waiting for you.
Rimsha Khan - International & Postgraduate Officer
What did/do you study? I’m doing my master’s in Business Analytics and Decision Science.
Your secret talent/hobby? I have a deep passion for art, and I excel in the skill of painting.
Favourite place on campus? LUU! The place is full of life!
Best thing about Leeds? Leeds offers the best of both worlds, with a thriving modern atmosphere that caters to both day and night, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
Tip to get the most out of the student experience? Go out and explore as much as possible, and try to make true friends. You never know when the perfect opportunity might come your way.
