Christie Championships: A Look Back
Also known as The Battle of the North, the Christie Championships is an annual sports event held between the Universities of Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. This year marked the 137th occasion of the event, ever since its establishment in 1886 – making it the second oldest inter-university competition in the UK after the Oxford-Cambridge rivalries.
In March, the championships returned. 50 LUU sports clubs travelled to Liverpool to compete in the three-way competition. 30+ sports events were played throughout the day culminating in a presentation to celebrate the overall victors. Leeds narrowly missed out retaining the Christie shield by 5 points, however the teams had a great day!
The final scores were: Leeds with 104.5, Liverpool with 109.5, and Manchester with 92.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and well done to our athletes!
