LUU rated ‘Excellent’ for the third time by national body

LUU has become the first Students’ Union in the country to receive an ‘Excellent’ rating in the NUS’s Quality Students’ Union accreditation three times.

The Quality Students Union (or QSU) assesses Students’ Unions on 12 criteria, including things like democracy, participation, sustainability and representation. In order to be graded ‘Excellent’, we need to achieve ‘Excellent’ in all 12 areas – which we have! The report notes “LUU is clearly valued highly by both the University and students. The LUU team have worked hard to ensure that students love their time at Leeds”.

The QSU team spoke to staff, including student staff, a focus group of students and colleagues in the University – and they all mentioned how clear it was that our goal is to improve our student experience at Leeds. That really is at the heart of the efforts of all the students and staff involved in LUU, so we are really happy that this has been recognised within the sector. We are proud of what we have achieved and we will keep striving to make sure we do everything we can to improve the student experience.

Professor Jeff Grabill, Deputy Vice Chancellor: Student Education at the University of Leeds commented: “We are really pleased to see LUU recognised in this way. It confirms what we know to be true – they are an excellent organisation and have demonstrated that quality through years of commitment to student experience. We are proud of the relationship we have with LUU and in particular with their elected student leaders, who ensure that we keep students at the centre of our work. The work we do in partnership with LUU means our students are empowered, heard and supported through their University journey.”

Chloe Ferguson, NUS-USI President and Chair of NUS Charity Board said: “I’m so pleased to see the ground-breaking work within our movement being recognised through NUS Charity’s Quality Students’ Union framework; the only organisational development tool designed specifically for students’ unions. It’s really positive to see LUU striving for excellence year after year, working towards achieving their full potential and showcasing their work to the movement, and beyond. The whole team should be so proud of all the hard work they’ve demonstrated through this process, well done!”

This achievement follows a string of recent accreditations for LUU, including the highest score in the country in the Best Bar None Scheme, an “Excellent” accreditation for SOS-UK’s Green Impact Scheme and the NUS Drug and Alcohol Impact Scheme.
