What we are doing:
- Reaching out to School Reps to assist them in understanding which areas are likely to be impacted and where they can help
- Arranging to meet with the Leeds branch of UCU and establishing contact with the University Executive Group
- Continuing to lobby the government and decision makers around cost of living for our community and beyond
- Providing up to date information on our webpages
- Working with our postgraduate researcher members and reps
- Consulting the International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) about international students’ concerns or worries
- Attending the Leeds Student Staff Solidarity Open meeting on the 26 October
- Holding several open hours where we will invite students to come and discuss industrial action with members of the Exec
- Giving students a safe and general meeting space to plan campaigns
Your Exec will be holding drop-in sessions for anyone who would like to talk about this.
If you have further questions or believe there is more LUU and your Exec can do right now, please do reach out to us.
Update - 09 November 2022
The UCU will be striking on the following dates: 24, 25 and 30 November. They will also begin industrial action short of strike from 23 November, which will mean working strictly to contract, not making up for work lost as a result of strike action, and not covering for absent colleagues.
This will be the biggest strike in UCU history, with 70,000 university staff demanding better pay, working conditions, and pensions. The UCU have explained the reasons for the strikes and their goals here.
We will update you on the details of the strikes and areas affected when we have more information.
To talk to your Exec about the strikes and what LUU can do to support you during this time, please visit the next virtual drop-in session on Friday 11 November, 5pm-6pm.
